Japan-America Society of DFW Celebrates Cultural Connection at Sushi-Making Class

Dallas/Fort Worth, TX — The Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth (JASDFW) recently hosted a hands-on Sushi-Making Class, where participants rolled, shaped, and experienced their way through an evening of culinary creativity and cultural connection. Click for Photos

The event brought together members, newcomers, and food enthusiasts from across North Texas to learn the art of sushi-making while deepening their understanding of Japanese culture. Under the guidance of expert instructors, guests learned traditional techniques and the meaning behind each ingredient — from rice preparation to three different types of sushi, nigiri, rolls, and temaki hand rolls.

Beyond the culinary experience, the evening exemplified JASDFW’s mission to bridge cultures and build friendships between Japan and the United States. Conversations flowed easily as participants worked side by side, discovering not only the delicate balance of flavors in Japanese cuisine but also the shared joy of learning something new together while enjoying pairing with four different types of delicious Dassai sake.

“Events like this remind us that food is one of the most meaningful ways to connect across cultures,” said Grant Ogata, President of JASDFW. “Each sushi crafted and each story shared adds another layer to the friendship between Japan and North Texas.”

Through community events, educational programs, and cultural exchanges, JASDFW continues to promote understanding and appreciation for Japan’s traditions and modern innovations alike.
