KERA RADIO PROGRAM, LETTERS FROM SENDAI

Starting July 11, 2011, four months after the disaster in the Tohoku area, a short radio show on 90.1FM KERA, featuring letters from Sendai, was broadcast on Mondays for a duration of 4 weeks.  The broadcast took place during Morning Edition and All Things Considered.

Anna McFarland, our Executive Director, was interviewed by Shelley Kofler, KERA News Director, and featured on July 11.  Click here to listen to the podcasts and read some more.  The letters were written by Sendai residents, Noriko Memezawa, Toshiaki Takaya and Gen Shoji.  To listen to their podcasts, click here.

A very special thanks to our volunteers who helped make this happen !  Chie Morizuka, Tim Jones, Kazuko Scott, Atsuko McCullen, Howard Jackson, Risa Foster, Kioto Kawakami and Isao Takamatsu.  During a period of 3 months and for a total of more than 50 hours of their own time, they helped collect letters, translated them into English and went to the KERA recording studio to read them.

OPERATION TOMODACHI

We had a very successful speaker event on June 7.  Capitan Jim Vitton, Chief of Staff, and Capitan Mike Vengrow, Deputy Fleet Surgeon, from the U.S. Navy's Seventh Fleet, told us all about their experience on board USS Blue Ridge through Operation Tomodachi.  We are so proud to know that there were men and women right here from Fort Worth helping the people of Japan only one day after the mega-earthquake and tsunami hit the area.  Thank you !
