Nengajo Contest

November - December 2016


Students show off their artistic and Japanese skills to create Nengajo, New Years' greeting cards. Winning entries will be displayed at Mochitsuki New Year's Celebration on January 15.


Submit entries between November 1 and  December 6, 2016.

Bōnenkai Forget-the-Year Party

Close out the year with Texas flair! Before kicking off the New Year, let's say farewell to 2016 with a bōnenkai or "forget-the-year party." Bring your family, wear your western attire, and join us for BBQ, line-dancing, and fun!

We'll also welcome Koji Sakai and Tomoko Takei from the International Relations and Planning Section of the City of Sendai.



In the spirit of the season, we're asking each attendee to bring a toy to be donated to children through a local charity. Each toy should be new, unwrapped, and appropriate for ages 0-12 years. Please keep safety in mind when you make your selections.

      Onion ring appetizer

      Sliced brisket, turkey, pulled pork, & Sonny Bryan's Famous BBQ sauce

      Coleslaw, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes

      Hot buttered rolls

      Apple Cobbler

      (Vegetarian salad available upon request)

Mochitsuki New Year's Celebration

Children under 5 years: Free.


Celebrate the Year of the Rooster with Japanese music, food, and fun! Try your hand at calligraphy, origami, and traditional Japanese New Year's games. See a traditional mochitsuki (rice pounding) demonstration and sample fresh homemade mochi.
