Setsubun Pekopeko-kai Supper Gathering
Wednesday, February 15  6:30 p.m.
Sushiism Restaurant and Social Lounge
1628 W. Hebron Parkway #120, Carrollton, TX 75010

Setsubun is a bean-throwing festival which is held the day before the beginning of Spring (February 3rd this year). It includes a special ritual to cleanse away all the evil by throwing roasted soy beans. At this month's supper gathering, while you won't throw any beans yourself, you will learn more about the holiday and its associated customs.

Example of Ehomaki

The chef at newly opened Sushiism will prepare an ehomaki roll specially for us, solely for this one occasion. Ehomaki (example picture to the left) literally means lucky direction roll, and is a type of futomaki with seven ingredients which correspond to the seven lucky gods. It is a custom in the Kansai area to eat these rolls while facing the year's lucky direction, thus bringing good fortune.
