internationally recognized institution
presents award-winning exhibitions,
groundbreaking travel exhibits, educational
public programs, innovative documentaries
and cutting-edge curriculum guides.

Communities Project Director Allyson
Nakamoto will also provide an update on the
ambitious collaborative initiative
Enduring Communities: The Japanese American
Experience in
Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and
Utah.
During World War II, about 65,000 Japanese
Americans – nearly one-half of the mainland
Japanese American population – lived in
these five states. Come and hear about the
upcoming national conference, curricula and
field guide that re-examine this important
but often-neglected chapter in U.S. history
and its connection with current issues.

The 5th annual Plano Asian
American Heritage Festival will feature
demonstrations of Asian culture
including Chinese calligraphy, Asian
painting, traditional dances, fashion
shows, musical instruments and other
cultural arts. Talented artists from the
local Asian community will showcase
their culture and heritage to the
public. This event celebrates the
diverse artistic and cultural
experiences of Asian-Americans.
ASIAFEST ‘08 is about understanding the
different spices that make up the
wonderful American Melting Pot.
ASIAFEST ‘08 is supported by the City of
Plano, the Mayor, City Council, and sponsors. JASDFW will
host an origami booth.

Lion dance, martial arts, sumo wrestling
and Japanese drums will grace the Dallas
City Hall Plaza as a part of this year’s
Asian Festival hosted by the Greater
Dallas Asian American Chamber of
Commerce and co-sponsored by the Crow
Collection of Asian Art. This free
event showcases authentic Asian cuisine,
cultural entertainment and activities
for children in a daylong festival
celebrating the National Asian Pacific
American Heritage Month.
Enjoy native arts & crafts, music,
dance, food, martial arts and children’s
activities. Unique cuisine from
Indonesia, Korea, China, India, Laos,
Vietnam, the Philippines and other
countries will be sold by independent
vendors. The children’s area,
Passport to Asia for Kids, will
provide activities culturally relevant
to the traditional arts of Asia such as
origami, face painting, henna painting,
jewelry making, and many more.
